The group of former Bathurst Panthers first graders are still finding their feet when it comes to the faster world of touch football, having only got together as a group for the past few seasons.

Clint Giddings and his team use their Wednesday touch football as fitness tester and as a great reason to enjoy a drink or two as a group afterwards.

"Playing football would be something going on for maybe 15 years but touch footy has been around three years," he said.

"Touch football is now the only thing for us guys who don't play league any more. It's the only activity we do, but I try to do as many past player events and activities to keep everyone together.

"We're not a big old boys group but I try and do what I can to help us promote players who have played for Panthers.

"It's a bit hard to get going because we've only been going for 20 years, so we don't have those older old boys necessarily, but we go down there to have a run, a laugh and a couple of beers.

"When we play the teams who thrash us we tend to much around a bit but when we have a chance we tend to take things a bit more seriously and the competitive edge kicked in. Wednesday fell into the 'us getting thrashed' category."

The Panthers old boys group features a familiar list of names for anyone who's been following the club's run through Group 10 since their inception in 2000.

Giddings said it's a great group of players to be around every week.

"We have Aaron Bateup, who has been around the club forever, and front rower James Higgins and also Roger Keates. Guys like Trent Hotham are the lifeblood of Panthers, their whole family has something to do with the league," Giddings said.

"Nathan Rowlandson was a major part in a couple of our premierships on the wing as well."

Giddings also gave a shout out to Keates for his "leadership qualities".

"If we could all hold possession and play with the speed and finesse that he plays with then we might be able to go a long way this season," he said.
