The friends committee formed in October to co-ordinate growing opposition to the go-kart track being built in McPhillamy Park and to lobby Bathurst Regional to find a new - but, as yet, undecided - site for the track.
Friends spokesman Sandy Bathgate said the government's rejection of the track as an appropriate use for money allocated to Bathurst under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program would please many locals.

"Many in the community will see this as a positive development for the community, because an extra $750,000 is now available to fund a range of genuine, valid community projects which will provide benefit across our Bathurst region," Mr Bathgate said.
"It will provide the funding for important employment opportunities as we make a recovery from the economic damage from COVID-19."
Mr Bathgate said questions remained about the process that saw council attempt to direct so much of the stimulus funding to a single project.
"This was 62 per cent of the $1.25 million potentially available to Bathurst under the program," he said.
"The proposal from council was formulated in a closed meeting of council in late July this year, without any community knowledge."
The Friends of McPhillamy Park committee comprises Mr Bathgate, Jan Page (committee chair), Iain McPherson, Fran White, Dr Donald Alexander, Professor David Goldney, Helen Bergen, Wayne Feebrey and Dr Juanita Kwok.
They are continuing to work on a number of events to raise awareness of their cause and to keep building support for their campaign to have the go-kart track moved.
