Bathurst has been included in one of 240 different business fibre zones in Australia, with the local zone to include almost all of the city's CBD and suburbs.
nbn (National Broadband Network) Chief Development Officer Regional and Remote, Gavin Williams, said the fibre zone will allow local businesses to convert over to better equipped digital infrastructure.

"I haven't come across a sector that isn't going through some sort of digital transformation," he said.
"When you think of what sort of digital infrastructure you need to support that transformation, the residential services you have in Bathurst is not enough. What you care the most about might be the download you get when watching Netflix or iView or general browsing.
"The things we need for businesses is as fast speed going into the network that is coming down from the network."
Businesses in Bathurst will basically have access to locally competitive infrastructure.

Traditionally, business fibre zones were cheaper for those in the heart of Sydney, but Mr Williams said the new fibre zone for Bathurst costs similar prices compared to those in the state capital.
"Businesses have a zoning system where you paid more if you're out of the CBD of Sydney," he said.
"In businesses fibre zones, we're levelling out those prices. We're charging the same in Bathurst for people in the centre of Sydney.
"Businesses in Bathurst will basically have access to locally competitive infrastructure. The product has the same capability to that what is available in Sydney."
While the high-speed internet is available to businesses of all shapes and sizes, it's not necessarily for the smallest of business operations.
"It costs more than the regular consumer services," he said.
"For example, there could be an animation firm that need significant upload capabilities. That kind of business might be interested."
Mr Williams explained that there's been very strong interest and expects businesses to be signing up for the new fibre zone in the coming future.
