In addition to a standard meat pie-eating contest, involving 10 participants eating as many pies as possible in 10 minutes, local business Luscious Lucy Plump 'mmm' Juicy, who is the official partner for the contest, will stage a further contest involving chili bean beef pies for a select few after an ultimate challenge.
Luscious Lucy owner Cara Oloman said she's eager to see how participants approach both challenges as their pies have a reputation for being exceptionally filling.
"The chili bean beef challenge involves five chili pies, four sweet pies with fresh cream, two sausage roles, a packet of Doritos and five cans of Coke, it's heavy as hell" Ms Oloman said.
"I was looking up professional eating competitions and they can put away around three kilograms, so hopefully the challenge attracts someone willing to have a crack."
Luscious Lucy reopened for business last Friday after the Christmas/New Year break, and Ms Oloman said the venue is in the process of creating a diverse gluten free menu.
"Our whole menu will feature gluten-free equivalents, which will allow more people to enjoy Lucy pies with a greater peace of mind," she said.
"I'm lucky in the way I make my pies, because the flavour comes more from the browning of the meat and spices...we use an insane amount of onion too which, when cooked down, adds that rich texture to the fillings."
Luscious Lucy opened in Bathurst last May, and their pies were voted the best in Australia in 2011 by ABC Radio.
Fun Fair Summer Splash manager Jade Evans said a key role of the event is to provide platforms to support local businesses.
"We are excited to support small business after such a crazy twelve months, and the pie contest adds fun in a real Australian way," Ms Evans said.
"We got in touch with Luscious Lucy and were thrilled that Cara and the team jumped at the chance to collaborate to create some Australia Day fun."
"Her enthusiasm and amazing pies will make it a great, fun addition to the Fun Fair."
