Australian technology firm Leading Edge Data Centres announced last August its plan to build a new data centre in the city that would provide a greater incentive for businesses to take advantage of a growing digital economy.
The Bathurst facility will be one of 14 hubs to be constructed across regional NSW.
At the time, Leading Edge CEO and founder Chris Thorpe said the centre would "expand connectivity options in the Bathurst region, which will empower everything from the consumer to local businesses".

"It's a platform for new and existing business to drive growth for the region, while also taking the reliance off the need to live in Sydney to access vital information technology [IT] infrastructure," he said.
A statement of environmental effects (SoEE) lodged with the development applications says the $1.8 million data centre will be built on council-owned land within an educational precinct including Charles Sturt University and Bathurst TAFE.
The facility will operate around-the-clock but will be a "dark site", meaning it is a secure and unoccupied site.
"The telecommunications facility consists of a prefabricated building manufactured offsite and supported by associated infrastructure including air conditioning condensers, generators and solar panels," the SoEE states.
"The buildings are air conditioned to keep the temperature inside regulated aided by the condensers located external to the building.
"There are two generators for each data centre, which only operate should there be a power failure.
"Solar panels are located on the roof of the buildings which will power the data centres in combination with electricity from Essential Energy."
The SoEE says the site is "predominantly clear of flora and fauna" and the proposal would not require any trees or substantial vegetation to be removed.
