A development application (DA), lodged by the Bathurst Bushrangers, proposes to install two new light towers and replace two others as part of the club's plans to improve the facilities on George Park 2.
This field is the home ground of the Bushrangers during the AFL season, and at other times is used for cricket, school carnivals and recreational use by residents.

George Park 1 is the home ground of the Bathurst Giants during AFL season and is not part of the DA.
George Park 2 is currently lit by two metal halide light towers located on the Rankin Street side of the oval.
The Bushrangers have proposed that two new 27.1-metre light towers be installed on the lower ground level and face north-west to provide an even amount of illumination over George Park 2.
The two existing light towers would be upgraded if consent is given to the DA.
Council's director of Environmental, Planning and Building Services, Neil Southorn, noted in his report that the new lights would not change the use of the facility.
"It is intended that the two new light towers and the upgraded light towers will continue to be used for weeknight training sessions only," he said.
"No night games have been proposed and the development will not result in any change of use of the land."

A key issue with the lighting proposal is that the light towers exceed the maximum building height applicable to the land, which is nine metres.
However, Mr Southorn recommends that council support a variation to clause 4.3 'Height of Buildings' of the Bathurst Regional Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and grant consent to the DA.
If his recommendations are accepted, there will be a list of conditions imposed.
These include that the main beam angle of all lights stays below 70 degrees to minimise glare, and that exterior sports lighting is to be switched off between 10pm and 7am.
