Some critics have previously written off Bathurst City as a finals contender, but a crucial eight-run win over City Colts in the Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket on Saturday has the club just outside the top four.

In what was a rain-affected match and the only game of five across the two cities to get underway, Redbacks were able to dismiss the Colts batting order even without the likes of captain Joey Coughlan, Ben Orme, Tom Lynch and Jarrod Urza.
Stand-in skipper Mark Day feels his team are now in with a shot of playing finals cricket.

"100 per cent we think we can make finals. We said after Christmas that finals is still a massive chance and there was a bit of a poke the bear moment when the Orange paper wrote a line through us," he said.
"As a group, we thought we still have a massive chance and we needed to win the last three games and we've got off to a great start. We've got a pretty good much up next week against Centrals and then we've got a game against Rugby."
Saturday's game started with Redbacks leading by 204 runs, after they had posted a score of 212 on day one.
Colts only batted for two overs, but Orme had been able to snag a wicket, dismissing Colts reliable bat Henry Shoemark for just two runs to leave Colts at 1-8.
Play was delayed for close to an hour and a half, with Day explaining the teams went off at around 2.30pm due to the rain, but the desire from him and Colts skipper Dan Casey to get a result saw the teams return to action at 4.10pm.
On each side of the rain delay, Colts had to turn to veteran talent Russell Gardner to get the runs, with this season's leading run scoring hitting 87 before he was caught out by Campbell Baker, from a Jacob Pepper delivery.
"It was pretty tense out there at times. The boys did unreal. You could've cut the tension with a knife. They need 20 runs and we needed two wickets or something," Day explained.
"I've heard all the stories about Russ and it was the first time I got to play against him. He's a freak. He was a class above.
"We just stuck to our plans for him and we were lucky big time player Campbell Baker took a high ball and change the game."
Clint Moxon was the pick of the Redbacks bowlers, taking four wickets from his massive 25 overs with the ball, with Ollie Simpson taking 2-26 off seven overs.
