Last month, current chair of the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) board, Scott Griffiths, announced he was retiring.

At the same time, he called for applications to fill his and other vacancies on the board, which is responsible for overseeing an effective governance and risk management framework for the district.

"We have a number of vacancies opening up on the Western NSW LHD Board due to the retirement of a number of members including myself, and I strongly encourage anyone with an interest in health to consider putting yourself forward by completing an expression of interest," Mr Griffiths said.

Warren Aubin, the spokesman for the action group, said he was disappointed to hear Mr Griffiths was leaving the board.

The action group has had a positive relationship with him since its formation.

"He was pretty much our go-to man when we had problems because he was the only one who wouldn't give you an answer that's just political spin; he'd tell you how it was," Mr Aubin said.

"It's a shame that he has reached that time that he's had to retire and we hope that the new chairman of the board is not Dubbo or Orange centric."

With the action group still having serious concerns about the state of health services in Bathurst, members will be keen to build up a good relationship with Mr Griffiths' replacement.

"We'll try to get in on the ground floor and get he or she to come along to one of our meetings so we can meet them and get them up to speed on where the action group is heading, what our plans are, and if we can get some of those implemented through the chairman of the board that would be fantastic," he said.

Mr Aubin hasn't ruled out the idea of someone from the action group applying to join the board, but said those discussions haven't taken place.
