First of two Miniroos Kickoff programs for 2021 gets underway in Bathurst

Miniroos has been created to give the city's youngsters aged between five and nine the chance to try out a new sport and keep active after school.

Collegians Soccer Club president and Miniroos organiser Anthony Dunn said the interest in the program has remained high.

"We had to close bookings because we had so much interest, and we're really just limited by our volunteers. It's proven to be really popular

"We ended up capping numbers at 50. It's more than doubled. We had around 23 players last year."

There's been a change up to the program this year, running as two separate five week blocs as opposed to a single eight week bloc.

The current five week program will be a great pre-season boost for those already signed up for the upcoming Bathurst District Football competition, while the second batch of Miniroos action over October and November will keep the action coming.

"It's a smaller amount of time and commitment for parents. It's a great come-and-try program," Dunn said.

"We were pleasantly surprised by the numbers and it shows that there's a demand for these types of programs. It's great to give something like this a go before committing to a longer season."
