As a fifth-generation Bathurstian, a descendant of a number of pioneering (white) families of the Bathurst district and a passionate crusader on environmental and social justice issues around Bathurst (and elsewhere) for almost 60 years, I find it deeply disturbing Bathurst Regional Council (BRC) is planning construction of a go-kart track in McPhillamy Park on Wahluu (Mount Panorama).
BRC's latest proposed construction project on Wahluu, sacred to the Wiradyuri Nation, who had the great misfortune, ultimately, to be the first Indigenous Nation to come in contact with us, the white invaders, west of the Great Dividing Range, is abjectly appalling.

It reminds me of a campaign in which I was heavily involved around 30 years ago, to save many trees on the western flanks of Wahluu from another local group of "motorsports enthusiasts" (dirt bike riders) and the acquiescence of then Bathurst City Council who, supposedly, as do the current mob on BRC, hold Wahluu in trust for us, all the people, be we of the First Nations, or as I am, a descendant of (albeit, convicts) white invaders.
It is completely incongruous BRC recognises, officially, the name Wahluu, but is supportive of further desecration of this site, which ought have been, long ago, spared the ignominy of yet more assaults upon its significance to the descendants of those from whom we stole (yes stole!) not only Wahluu, but the entire country we now call home - Australia!
