The shuttle to Newbridge and back in a 1960s vintage rail motor is one of the activities being held at the station to celebrate the 145th anniversary of the Great Western Line.
Train trips are also going to and coming from the other direction.
Those on the Newbridge shuttle posed for photos as they boarded and waved to loved ones on the platform as they chugged out of the station.
Nearby, a three-piece band played to add to the atmosphere.
The Bathurst Rail Museum, which has a jumping castle for the kids as part of this weekend's activities, was busy and parking was at a premium around the Keppel and Havannah street area.
