IT'S not every day you can throw a blanket over the bulk of a finishing field at Kennerson Park but the first event at the Bathurst track on Monday provided such fireworks.

Run Fast Maximus ($2.90) made in three wins on the trot for trainer Clint Colaiacovo but not before he was pushed to the limit by four challengers who all finished within a length of him in the Vale John Harris (450 metres).
Hip Hop Motion ($26, Steven Cummins), Billy Lobo ($2.60 equal favourite, Elizabeth Scott), Shakira Shacoby ($2.60 eq fav, Terrence Northey) and Ritza Janelle ($41, Darren Wort) all finished right on Run Fast Maximus' tail in a five-dog thriller.
Billy Lobo and Shakira Shacoby had Run Fast Maximus initially blocked for a run as the field made their way across the back straight but Colaiacovo's runner found a path down the inside to take the lead on the turn for home.
The other two challengers refused to go away, and the fast-finishing Hip Hop Motion and Ritza Janelle arrived on the scene to provide an exciting finish to the race.
Run Fast Maximus held on to record win number 12 at start 39 in a time of 26.22 seconds.
"It was a pretty handy mixed grade four-five field and there's dogs in there who have won a fair few races. There might have only been six dogs but there were some quality dogs in it. It's great winning a race like that," Colaiacovo said.
"He's an honest dog. He's won three in a row - something he's done a couple of times now - and while he's more suited to a shorter course we tried to push him out a bit further today."
