It was the brave battle of a fellow colleague that inspired South Bathurst Public School principal Greg Cross to lace up his dancing shoes for this year's Stars of Bathurst Dance for Cancer event.

And to support his campaign, Mr Cross has two energetic fundraising events planned: a rock karaoke night at The Victoria Bathurst next Friday, and a cycling event with Mark Renshaw on May 22.
Mr Cross said the events incorporate two of his favourite hobbies: rock music and cycling.
"I enjoy The Victoria's atmosphere, and when Heath Smith [manager] suggested a karaoke night at Little Alberts with a live band and all ticket sales going to the fundraiser, I was delighted by such a generous gesture," he said.
"The cycling event will see me spend six hours on an indoor trainer in Bathurst City Centre, and members of the community are encouraged to join me for part of the trip."
"Mark and the Renshaw's Pedal Project team are kindly donating the equipment, which uses the Zwift training app, and a host of celebrity riders [including Mark] will also take part."
Mr Cross has already raised $5665 of his $8000 goal off the back of a successful raffle venture through local businesses and generous donations from friends.
"I initially set a goal of $2500, and I've had to continue upping the target as the generosity shown by friends and colleagues has certainly exceeded my expectations," he said.
Mr Cross has partnered with Bathurst Academy of Dance [BAD] to work on his Stars of Bathurst routine, which complements the rock karaoke idea.
"The dance is backed by a mash-up of AC/DC, Bon Jovi and Angry Anderson, and involves more moves than a game of chess," he said.
"Mikaela Graham [BAD principal] is my coach, and she has been fantastic to work with; I'm getting plenty of enjoyment out of the experience."
Stars of Bathurst Dance for Cancer will take place at Bathurst Goldfields on Saturday, May 29.
Tickets to Mr Cross' rock karaoke fundraiser cost $25, and are available via Eventbrite. For more information, visit The Victoria Bathurst's Facebook page.
