This week report is predominately based around social bowls.
Only one game of championships was played.
With near perfect bowling conditions, there was no excuse for not getting out there and having a go.
This is how the week rolled:
Tuesday, May 4, 2021
Rink eight: Keith Pender and Des Sanders made light work against Paul Jenkins and Allan Clark, with a 17-3 lead by the 12th.
Team Clark were never in the match and didn't even make double figures to go down in the end 23-8.
Rink nine: Mick Burke and Max Elms were in a fight for the match against Dick Graham and Ron McGarry.
With level scores on the 4th (4-all) and again on the second last end 19 all, it came down to the wire, with Team Elms victorious 20-19.
Rink 10: G. Scott and Noel Witney dominated against Tom Beck and Dave Josh.
With scores 4-all on the 5th, Team Witney dominated the next five ends to open the gap 18-6.
Team Josh had nothing left in the tank at the back end of the match to go down 23-12.
Rink 11: Ian Warren and Phil Burgess versed Jim Clark and Gordon Holland in a match, which was all one sided.
Team Holland controlled the match, with a 14 point win, winning 26-12.
Saturday, May 8, 2021
Rink two: 'A' Singles Championship Game - John Crocker and Allan Clark battled it out over 37 ends, with Allan Clark leading 14-7 by the 14th.
But John Crocker came back to take the lead on the 20th end (16-15) and then Allan Clark levelling the match on the very next end.
John Crocker stepped it up from here and opened an eight point gap and then the win, 31-23.
Rink three: Kerry Connors and Trevor Sharpham should have known better to take on veterans Mick McDonald and John Hobson.
With Team Hobson in full control of the match, the score resembled the performance Team Sharpham were giving (21-2) for the first 13 ends.
Team Hobson continued the onslaught to take an easy win 31-10.
Rink four: Terry Clark, Max Elms and Ken Hartwig opened the scoring against Ron Hogan, Noel Witney and Hugh Brennan.
Team Hartwig hit the lead on the 5th (5-4) and developed a comfortable lead to be up 14-6 by the 13th.
However, Team Brennan were not going down without a fight and produced a spectacular comeback by winning the next seven ends, with end 15 picking up seven points.
Team Brennan taking an unsuspecting win 24-15.
Rink five: John Bosson, Ted Parker and Lotzi Koszta came from behind against George Ballard, Phil Burgess and Dave Josh to take the lead on the 7th (7-6).
Team Koszta won 9 ends in a row to take a great win 22-11.
Rink six: Glen Miller, Ron McGarry and John Finlay had a very close match against Darryl Schurmer, Ron Hollebone and Tim Pickstone.
With Team Finlay in the lead early 11-6 by the 9th, Team Pickstone came back to level the scores 13-all on the 13th.
With nothing in it on the second last end (19-20) to Team Pickstone, Team Finlay picked up two on the last to take the win 21-20.
That wraps up another week at the Majellan Bowling Club.
Until next week, be kind to each other, see you on the green and Stay Frosty.
Bathurst City
Zone Senior Pairs
Phil Gray and John Archer represented Bathurst City at Mudgee on the weekend.
Holding two shots while 15-13 in the 20th end, disappointment followed when Skip Bob Hamilton's last bowl came through a gap and took the jack back to four his team's bowls.
Social Bowls
Wednesday, May 5
Game one, rink 16. Ray Noonan and John Martin played very well against Jim Grives and Paul Rodenhuis, having seven shots on the board to nil after five ends.
They steadily increased their score so that by the seventeenth end, they led 21-7.
Jim and Paul took the last four ends and eight shots to end the game 21-15.
Game two, rink 17. Two Jacks, Smith and McDonagh led for all but the first end in their game against Kevin Miller and Barry McPherson.
After eleven ends the score stood at 12-9, but a run of six winning ends put the Jacks ahead 21-9.
Kevin and Barry added six more shots but fell short by seven with the final score 22-15.
Game three, rink 18. Ron Cambey and Annette McPherson had a strong game to defeat Norm Hayes and Margie Miller 26-10.
After a five in the eighth end, they were leading 13-3; by the 15th end it was 23-5.
Scoring five shots over the next six ends put Norm and Margie into double figures while Ron and Annette added another three.
Game four, rink 19. Geoffrey Thorne and Ian Cunningham defeated Alby Homer and Phil Murray 19-14.
After being 6-all in the eighth end, Geoff and Ian opened their lead to 14-9 in the 16 th end.
Two ends later, it was 14-all but Geoff and Ian took the last three ends and five shots.
Saturday 14th May
Game one, rink two: It was another close one with only a shot difference at the end.
Shorty Noonan, Garry Hotham and Brian Burke defeated Bob Lindsay, Chris Stafford and John Fulton 19-18.
No game details because Shorty took the card home with him.
Game two, rink three: Mick Sewell with off-sider Bruce Rich had a convincing win against Alex Birkens and Phil Murray.
Mick and Brucie started well with a five, then a three to be leading 11-5 after seven ends.
After a couple of threes, the lead had stretched out to 19-7 after thirteen ends.
A couple of fours for Alex and Phil had them only four shots down.
A couple of singles had them three behind but Alex and Bruce closed out the last three ends to end the game on 27-17.
Game three, rink four: A close finish was the result after a wide margin in the game between Alby Homer and Paul Reece against Norm Hayes and Susie Simmons.
After six ends, Alby and Paul led 8-1.
A three for Norm and Susie was all they could add to their score while Alby and Paul added six.
So after ten ends, the score was 14-4.
However, Norm and Susie buckled down and bit-by-bit, they finally overtook their opponents, then led 17-14 in the 19th end.
Alby and Paul equalised with a three in the 20th end and took the win with a single in the last.
Game four, rink five: Pat Duff, Paul Rodenhuis and Joe Young had a good win over Jim Grives, John McDonagh and Bob Foster.
Jim's team scored a five in the sixth end, taking them into the lead with a score of 9-3.
Pat's team levelled the score at 9-all but from there on it was a game of catch-up, always a few shots behind.
At the 20th end they were down three, 19-16 but an eighth in the last survived Jim's attempts to reduce the shots.
Game five, rink six: Ron Cambey and Anthony Morrissey had a good win over Geoff Thorne and Trevor Kellock.
Ron and Anthony dropped only one end and two shots in the first six ends to have fourteen, including three 4s on the board.
A six in the eleventh end took their score to 21-5, then 28-5 after a five and a two.
Geoff and Trevor put on eight shots in the next five ends, then another single later.
The final score on the day for Ron and Anthony was 32-14.
Bathurst Real Estate Juniors

We had five boys at the coaching session on Saturday morning - Charlie, Harry, Finn, Flynn and Nolan.
These boys are developing their skills on the green.
We hope to see them representing Bathurst City in Zone events.
