In what is being advertised as a 'Brit glam rock' spectacle, the Mitchell Young Voices [MYV] and adult VOX choirs will pay tribute to some of Britain's finest artists, and will be backed by a stellar rock band.
Conductor Michelle Griffin said the event will showcase some of MitCon's finest musicians, while providing a fun, engaging set of classic tunes.
"We were finally able to get the choirs back together earlier this year after a while away, so for our first public gig, we wanted to something full of fun, and what better than the denizens of British glam rock," Ms Griffin said.
"There will be plenty of Bowie, a wide range of Elton, and a number of popular Queen songs, including their famous operatic number that needs no introduction."
Ms Griffin said the songs have been enjoyable to share out among both choirs, especially younger members who are discovering the music for the first time.
"The young voices are already pretty familiar with Queen, but Bowie has been a revelation to them," she said.
"One of the songs they're performing is 'Space Oddity', and it has become a fast favourite of theirs."
The event will be MitCon's first venture into themed gigs at The Victoria, which have been a popular staple at the venue over the past two years through classic album and genre nights.
"A lot of the chosen songs have a number of different vocal parts, which complements the choir format," Ms Griffin said.
"Some of the arrangements sound very close to the original song, while others are quite different, so we encourage audience members to have a good sing-a-long and a fun night out."
The event will get under way next Saturday, June 5 from 7pm. Tickets cost $30 for adults and $20 for concession. For more information, visit the MitCon or The Victoria Facebook page.
