The Mungals league tag side were their own worst enemy at times but still pulled through for a 14-6 victory while the men's side followed that up with a hard fought 30-22 success.
Mungals coach Jacob Watkin said the team did well to overcome the challenge of working in new combinations.
"The game on the weekend was an arm wrestle throughout against an improved United team. We had a few key players missing and were short staffed, so we had girls playing out of position and in positions they haven't played in before," he said.
"We made it pretty hard on ourselves. We said we wanted to complete, play simple and work the ball out of our own end, but uncharacteristic handling errors kept United well and truly in it."
Those handling errors at least shone a light one bright area of the Mungals' game - their defence.
"I think the winning difference was our defence. With the amount of dropped ball coming out of our own half, the girls were constantly under pressure having to defend our line," Watkins said.
"It's something we always work on at training; our one-on-one tagging, scramble tagging and goal line defending, so it was nice to see our hard work translate from training into the game.
"I think we are starting to see that we are a really gritty team that won't go away and that's been a constant theme for us all season. We have only conceded a try a game the past three games and it's something we are beginning to pride ourselves on.
"The scary thing is we haven't scratched the surface with our attack and I think that is something that is going to show down the stretch of this season."
United came out strongly in the men's match to go out to a 12-6 lead at half-time but the Mungoes regathered with one of their best halves of football this season.
Watkin, who also features in the men's side, said the Mungoes found some great rhythm after the break.
"It was our most important game this season for sure. We haven't been at our best consistency this year and that was something we wanted to change," he said.
"We challenged ourselves throughout the week and knew how we wanted to go out and play against United. We started the game well in both attack and defence and United always come out of the gates flying.
"We came out after half-time and executed what we spoke about at training during the week for the entire second half. It was the best our attack and structure has looked for most of the season, so it's really exciting for the boys going forward."
The win sees Mungoes leap United into second place on the ladder.
