I don't believe I have the knowledge or expertise to speak for or against the proposal.
Obviously it could please estate agents, business houses and Bathurst Regional Council as it will be of benefit to their coffers.
The matter, however, highlights four issues that must be addressed more urgently in Bathurst. They are:
1. Water. Despite having a good supply in Chifley Dam, we have not developed a good long-term plan for rationing. Nor have we addressed the issue of sound water transfer by other than an open river.
2. Traffic flow. The strain on the inadequate passage along Hereford Street and narrow low level bridge, not to mention Sydney Road into Bathurst, will only grow greater.
3. A bypass. Traffic flow is greatly affected by having a state highway run along Kendall Avenue, Durham and Stewart streets. The bypass, talked about for years, is still in the never-never. Look at the difference bypasses have made all around the state.
4. Parking. Every new dwelling adds about two cars to the city's pool. All motorists know it is getting harder to find a park in town.
It is hoped that in September we elect a council capable of and willing to address these issues for the good of the community.

Still waiting for another crossing
HERE we go again. Land releases east of the river but no announcement about how we get from one side of the river.
When are we going to see announcement about another river crossing or bypass?
Come on, council and local member, it's time for action.
