A FORMER acting governor at Bathurst Correctional Centre was recognised in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Louise Smith, who started her career as a correctional officer in 1999 and served at various jails, was assistant superintendent at the Oberon and Bathurst correctional centres from 2007 to 2015.
She was later senior assistant superintendent at Bathurst Correctional Centre and is currently with the St Heliers Correctional Centre at Muswellbrook.

Ms Smith is described as having a keen insight into offenders and their needs, having completed a psychology degree in 2015 while working in the acute crisis management unit at Bathurst.
She says she has a passion for education and supporting continuous learning for her team members.
Ms Smith is described as having "demonstrated exemplary commitment and dedication to Corrective Services NSW, to inmates and staff, and to the wider community throughout her more than 20 year career in corrective services".
