Year 6 student Jock Robinson is set to represent the Diocese of Bathurst at the 2021 NSW Catholic Primary Schools rugby union selection trials at Forbes on Monday, June 21.
The 11-year-old will run on as a forward for the team which is expected to perform well at the Polding trials next week.
Holy Family School principal Kevin Arrow said Robinson has been working hard throughout the season to improve and that his selection in the Diocese of Bathurst team a just reward.
"Jock is a talented junior rugby player who works really hard on his game," he said.
"He has been highly motivated from the diocesan trials, which were held recently at Stannies. We wish Jock well at Forbes as he tries for selection in the Polding team."
Robinson was a junior player for the successful Holy Family School rugby union team that contested the final of the Diocesan Rugby Union Knockout back in April this year.
That knockout competition was a 10-a-side tournament, but Robinson is stepping up to the 15-a-side game at the Polding trials.
Robinson also plays for the Bathurst Bulldogs juniors on the weekend in the local Central West Rugby Union competition, coming up against some of the best junior players his age in the region.
The Polding trials include diocesan teams from basically half of the NSW state area.
At the end of the day, individuals will be named to comprise the 2021 Polding rugby union team to compete at the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association State Rugby Union Carnival, which is set to be held in Mudgee from August 17-19.
Robinson was selected in the diocesan team following trials held at Stannies earlier in the year.
