The NSW Government recently announced $25 million will be injected into the industry for infrastructure purposes and a new funding model will see the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission (GWIC) funded by the government.
The GWIC has its headquarters in Bathurst.
GWIC was previously funded by Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW), so the new funding arrangement will allow GRNSW to invest that money back into the clubs and industry participants.
"We're not sure how it's going to be broken up yet, but there are some things we need to do here, like upgrade our winning post tower [and] our lure driver tower," Bathurst Greyhound Track manager Jason Lyne said.
"There's a few projects we'd like to get done with the money, so I'm sure when the guys in town sort that out, hopefully we'll be on the list at some stage to get some work done."
IN OTHER NEWS AROUND BATHURST:
The new model will see GRNSW contribute a minimum of $25 million over the next five years into a newly established Greyhound Industry Future Fund.
This fund will be distributed to clubs around NSW to improve their track facilities as well as rehoming facilities.
"Under the new arrangements, GWIC can continue to safeguard the integrity of greyhound racing and betting while GRNSW can focus on supporting the growth and prosperity of the greyhound racing industry," Minister for Better Regulation Kevin Anderson said.
"We want this industry to go from strength to strength and this new fund enables investment in off-track facilities to improve the experience of spectators and greyhound participants while they are at the races."
GRNSW CEO Tony Mestrov thanked the NSW Government for its support and said the new funding system will also allow GRNSW to "support its thousands of participants with better prizemoney returns".
