Promise To Rock ($4, Nathan Turnbull) held off a charge from Infinity Beach ($4.80, Jason Hewitt) to claim a ninth career win in the TAB Venue Mode Ladyship Pace (1,730 metres).
The Nathan Turnbull-trained and driven Promise To Rock came across from gate five to lead Infinity Beach and a leisurely 63-second opening half allowed the leader to keep plenty in reserve.
Infinity Beach looked set to surge past Turnbull's runner on the sprint for home but she raced roughly in the closing strides to foil her winning chances, going down by 1.3m.
Turnbull was quick to mention that the victory had an element of luck to it.
"Jase's horse probably would have beaten me if she wasn't roughed up 50 metres out from the line so there was a bit of fortune there," he said.
"She's been racing out in the bush against horses that have been going through their grades and I raced that one of Amanda's one from New Zealand, Urus, and it's come out and won again the other day, so the form was there.
"She was in a race tonight that I was confident she could do well in if I was able to get across. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to cross the two [Infinity Beach] but when I did I thought I'd be alright.
"When it came off my back I thought 'Here we go, it's going to beat me' but it got roughed."
Favourite The Runnin Kind ($3.90, Mat Rue) finished strongly after a tough run to finish in third.
The winning mile rate was 1:59.0 and was just the second Bathurst win for Promise To Rock.
"We got a good breather in the second quarter and with that quick last half she was going to be hard to catch. They're hard to catch when they get home in 27.7, Turnbull said.
"She keeps hovering around this grade. I'm sure at this level she'll keep finding places and be competitive. Any time she finds herself in an under-55 grade race she tends to be dominant."
