Royalhotshot ($2.90 favourite) was never headed as he led the entire distance in the opening event, the Parkes/Dubbo Series Heat One (2,040 metres), before Camanchi Warrior ($5.50) survived a photo finish against Terryrama ($9.50, Will Cassell) to take out the Dwyer Contracting Pace (2,040m).
Despite having a pair of chasers right on his tail down the entire home stretch, Royalhotshot looked like a picture of composure during his victory.
Turnbull hardly had to move on his runner while both Sharp Shooter ($5.50, Nathan Hurst) and Maudies Delight ($11, Mark Hewitt) were being worked furiously in their unsuccessful bids to chase him down.
"She did do it easily. I knew that the horse who could beat me was on my back, so I just had to hold her in the pocket, and it all worked out perfectly," Turnbull said of Royalhotshot's success.
"The outside ones were all knocked up and it was mostly about controlling the one behind me, just as much as controlling my own horse.
"She's come over from Perth and she won three in a row really quickly for me and she's been racing without luck over the last month so I thought she was a good chance in this one after drawing barrier one."
A bit of luck was needed for Camanchi Warrior to take out his event, as Terryrama would have likely chased him down if not for suffering a horror three-wide trip almost the whole way.
Terryrama showed plenty of spirit to throw down a challenge but Camanchi Warrior did enough to win by a short half head.
"I got taken on by about four different horses, in the death seat and three wide, but my guy dug in and won well. I was very lucky that Terryrama was stuck three wide otherwise I'd say he would have beaten me," Turnbull said.
