DEFENCE has been a focus for the CSU Mungals this season and it's work that paid off in the pressure filled final minutes of Saturday's Mid West League league tag major semi-final against Oberon.

The determined Tigers pilled on the pressure right until the final whistle, but the Mungals held on for a 14-10 win at Diggings Oval to make it seven consecutive years CSU has been represented in the league tag decider.
CSU captain and halfback Georgia Woodhouse - who along with Lily Walsh made a string of crucial tags - certainly felt the pressure as the Tigers fought back from a 14-0 half-time deficit.
"That was so nerve-racking far out, the defence especially, oh my God, it was so frantic," she said.
"Our defence is really strong which is so good, I guess if a team can't score then they can't beat you. Defence is what wins games a lot of the time.
"We were lucky that we had a really strong first half and that helped us get home. We are straight into the grand final now and that's very exciting."
Having gone undefeated through the regular season, the Mungals went into the first of the grand final qualifiers as the favourites. They wasted little time in demonstrating why they held that mantle.
With just over two minutes gone on the clock a cross field kick found the arms of Grace Farmilo who then fired the ball out to the right wing to put the unmarked Caitlin Blackford over.
Off the next set Bek Giffin broke down the left edge then found Walsh in support, the centre running away to score. Sam Hurst nailed to conversion to make it 8-0.
Two minutes into the second quarter after CSU had forced a line drop out Woodhouse added a third try and at 14-0, the Mungals looked on their way to a comfortable win.
But Oberon was not about to give up. In the second half the Tigers lifted their completion rate and applied more pressure.
They got on the board just before three-quarter-time with five-eighth Renee Newstead scoring off a smart chip and chase.
With three minutes to go Jorgia McFawn cut the margin to four, then from the kick-off CSU's Fallon Attwater was sinbinned.
However, CSU managed to hold on to become the first side into the decider.
Oberon coach Shannon Foley admitted the nerves got to her side and was a big reason behind the Tigers completing just one set in the first seven minutes of the match.
But she was proud of the way they fought back and held CSU scoreless in the second half. Foley feels replicating that sort of effort will see them survive the preliminary final against Orange United.
"If they play like they did in the second half for a whole game, they'll be very dangerous I think," Foley said. "You can tell they were definitely rattled towards the end CSU.
"We were just too nervous at the start, they've never made it to the big dance before and they just put a lot of pressure on themselves."
CSU 14 (Georgia Woodhouse, Lily Walsh, Caitlin Blackford tries; Sam Hurt goal) defeated OBERON TIGERS 10 (Renee Newstead, Jorgia McFawn tries; Renee Newstead goal)
