The river peaked below the minor flood level at 2.53 metres at 4am on Monday and while it has since gone down, the State Emergency Services (SES) still encourages people not to gravitate towards flood water.
"At the moment it's 80cm from hitting the deck level of the lower-level bridge, so it's 2.34 metres and steady according to the bureau and it's actually come down a little bit," SES Western Region media office David Rankine said on Monday afternoon.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
"What the bureau has predicted this morning is more rain for Wednesday and Thursday ...
"We'll be certainly keeping a very close eye on not only the river levels but moreso the rainfall that falls upstream, particularly above Chifley Dam.
"We always advise people that if it's flooded, forget it. There's no need to be trying to cross any flood water."
While the low level Hereford Street bridge is currently safely above water level, parts of the river walk were blocked off on Monday morning due to flood water.
Whether walking, riding a bike or driving a car, Mr Rankine urges locals to "just keep away" from any flooded water.
"It's dangerous," he said.
