CSU found the creative spark they needed at half-time in Saturday's New Holland Agriculture Cup preliminary final to run well clear of the visiting Mudgee Wombats and book their ticket to the decider.

After holding a narrow 8-7 lead at the break CSU injected some life into their offence with a polished second half performance, leading to a 42-14 victory at University Oval.
CSU's star duo of Ethan Cusick and Lachlan Buckton each scored twice in the big win, which sends the students to next Saturday's grand final away to minor premiers Parkes Boars.
"We had to absorb those first 40 minutes because we knew that they'd come at us. We've worked hard this year on our fitness and our up-and-down, stop-start replays with everybody being fit enough to get to that next play," CSU coach Dave Conyers said.
"Our ball security was much better today and so was our continuity with the ball. Our forwards and backs linked up a lot better and I think that was the biggest plus."
Cusick jumped at the chance to send CSU out to an early 3-0 lead with a penalty but the visitors were quick to hit back.
Wombats went to the short side off the scrum, catching CSU napping as Jesse Pietrzak dived across for the first try of the match.
CSU had the bigger share of possession across the half but continued to be their own worst enemies with a range of errors and penalties against them.
It took a Cusick solo effort - and successful chip kick and regather - to get the hosts in front before the break.
The score remained 8-7 for only three minutes into the new half when a short ball inside from Cusick put Buckton across for his first try.
Wombats continued to suffer front row seats to the Buckton show when the CSU forward finishes of a great passage of play from the students out of their own half.
Carlos Nykolyn started the move with his line break, linking up with Aiden Kennelly who would CSU right on the Mudgee try line, before Buckton finished it off.
CSU found their third try in the space of 10 minutes as Cusick slipped through the Wombats' line to score next to the uprights, converting his own try for a 27-7 advantage.
Mudgee show lots of spirit in attack to stop the surge of CSU points, and those efforts would soon be rewarded.
Tom Dunstan scored off the back of a strong Wombats maul on the CSU try line to make it 27-14.
However, tries in quick succession to Nick Greenburg and Eli Mitchell put the game beyond Mudgee's reach.
Cusick took more time of the Wombats' clock inside the last five minutes of the game when he hit home a 51 metre penalty attempt, putting an exclamation point on a dominant half of football.
CSU 42 (Ethan Cusick 2, Lachlan Buckton 2, Nick Greenberg, Eli Mitchell tries; Cusick 3 conversions; Cusick 2 penalties) defeated MUDGEE WOMBATS 14 (Jesse Pietrzak, Thomas Dunstan tries; Brian O'Reilly 2 conversions)
