Bathurst District Football: Great women's minor premiership battle might not see its conclusion

That's how Abercrombie FC's women's coach Macca Brophy believes his team feels, even with an unblemished season record to their name across Bathurst District Football ladies premier league year.

"I believe the competition being brought to a halt is hard on everyone. I've spoken to some of my team about it and they are more upset they can't play football with their mates every weekend," he said.

"The positions on the table were never really in discussion, I'm sure all the other teams feel the same way and we are all keen to get back on the pitch if that is possible.

The season looked likely to be heading for an Abercrombie versus Panorama grand final, given the way the pair of clubs had dominated the regular season.

They had a 10-point buffer over third placed Eglinton squad, who had always looked the club most likely to disrupt those grand final plans, at the time of the competition coming to a halt.

Brophy said there was a great enjoyment factor and level of positivity among the playing group throughout 2021.

"The rivalry we have with the Panorama girls is so exciting, I believe it's the most entertaining match up in Bathurst football," he said.

"Our dynamic from last season has changed quite a bit, we seem to be enjoying our football more, winning is great and we are proud to be on top however we just love playing football and having fun with our mates."

With a resumption of play looking less likely with every day that goes by the question is now how well the team can prepare themselves for a new season.

Thanks to positive culture and a young player base to work with, Brophy is confident of maintaining the current level of success.

"A few of our players are still in school, and they are incredibly talented with so much potential," he said.

"I really hope they stick around when it comes to going to uni, whatever they decide to do in the future I'm glad I've had the chance to coach them.

"They have all found their place at the club and I'm optimistic that the future for Abercrombie is bright."
