Ian Pollet from Pollet's Martial Arts remaining positive during COVID-19 lockdown in Bathurst

Currently all face-to-face classes at the dojo have been suspended because of the lockdown across NSW, but classes have still been running online for students.

While Pollet admitted the current situation is tough, he urged his students to remain patient and remain positive.

"The big thing for people now is they have to be patient," he said.

"This will pass. In the world in the past, everyone has gone through difficult times and this is our difficult time. We've just got to stay positive.

"Parents are doing homeschooling for their children, teachers are teaching from home.

"Everyone is doing the best they can with what they've got. Team work is the best advice I can give everyone."

The online classes Pollet's has been running have fairly successful.

"It's helping a lot of the members in lockdown," he said.

"A lot of kids are enjoying it. There's a lot of kids online and their parents and grandparents come along as well.

"It's been quite helpful for the families that come online.

"We're doing our thing with the lockdown. We're teaching all different classes at Pollet. There's teachers from out here, down in the city and they're all pitching in the best way they can.

"Kids are staying occupied at home. It's working well."

Pollet said there are some challenges to teaching online such as space and lack of equipment but he said he's made sure his students are doing techniques adaptable to the space available.

Pollet encouraged his students - and everyone in general - to remain fit and active during the lockdown.

"Keep that strength going forward and keep yourself fit," he said.

"If people don't keep themselves fit, they'll become more depressed and have anxiety attacks and things will get worse.

"Stay fit, get online - whether it's karate, Muay Thai. We have a lot of variety online, a great to way to keep occupied every evening.

"The parents have got to make sure their little guys get online to train, because they'll be very bored."
