I believe there is a need for the proposed medical centre/hospital, but I do believe the location will create an enormous traffic problem as this area already gets congested.
Bathurst is a fast growing city. Building this in the CBD is not looking towards our future growth.
I would like to also bring to the attention of council the promises made about 25 years ago for a bypass to allow large trucks and trailers off Stewart Street and passing through part of the CBD. This is disruptive to the flow of normal traffic.
RECENT LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:
The over-large trucks do not stop on route through Bathurst as there is nowhere to pull up, so this would not affect business.
Orange council followed through when they put forward to have a bypass and this has served the community as well as truck drivers and travellers. A bypass is also on schedule in another neighbouring town.
I believe this is priority one.
The low level bridge on Hereford Street is priority two. Council has just spent hundreds on moving washed-up debris, thousands on new guard fencing.
The developments in this area are causing congestion at peak times daily and, when flooded, a further congestion to the highway.
