BUSS has received a donation from an unnamed benefactor, enabling the not-for-profit community organisation to renovate the food serving area behind the Bathurst Uniting Church.
The space has previously been used for emergency overnight accommodation for people experiencing homelessness, and more recently has been the site used for other programs, including the Safe Shelter Café.
BUSS coordinator Julie Fry said the space, part of a building built in the late 1930s, was in need of an upgrade.
"We're pretty excited about getting a space that will be much more usable than previously. The fact that we're increasing the range and the scope of the programs that we are running means that we need more functional spaces to operate in," she said.
The space will get new benches and cupboards, a pantry, sink and hot water supply, a dishwasher and the room will receive a fresh coat of paint.
The upgrade will support the soup kitchen and nutritional cooking programs when they can resume.
Ms Fry thanked the benefactor for their donation.
