CHARLES Sturt University researchers are calling on volunteers to help create a pollinator garden on the Bathurst campus.

They say it will be a bed and breakfast for birds, bees and butterflies.
Team leader Dr Felicity Small said the decline in pollinators must be addressed, inviting any locals who are interested in helping to attend a working bee on October 16.
"The proposed pollinator garden will provide much-needed rest and revival for pollinators, which are experiencing alarming population declines," Dr Small said.
"Most people aren't aware that pollinators are connected to one-in-three bites of what people eat, and that they are extremely important for soil and water health, and are the basis of the ecosystem and biodiversity."

A team in the Charles Sturt School of Business, led by Dr Small, secured a Sustainability at Charles Sturt grant to create the garden.
The COVID-safe event will run from 9.30am to 2.30pm and morning tea and lunch will be provided for volunteers. Participants should bring their own hat, gloves, sturdy footwear, garden trowel and mask.
