The Bureau of Meteorology has recorded about 65mm of rain in the past 48 hours at its official weather station at Bathurst Airport, with more expected on Friday.
The Macquarie River at Bathurst was at 2.83 metres and rising at 5am and was expected to pass the minor flood level about 6.30am.

The bureau says the river is forecast to peak at 4.20 metres this afternoon with minor flooding likely.
Bathurst Regional Council said the low-level bridge was closed about 6.30am and crews would continue to monitor the situation throughout the day.
The bureau has forecast up to 20mm of rain for Bathurst today with up to 10mm on Saturday and 3mm on Sunday.

The SES advises residents to:
- Stay informed. Be prepared to act if your situation changes.
- Stay up to date with information. Listen to flood warnings and follow advice on how to protect yourself, family, and property.
- People working or camping along the Upper Macquarie River should monitor river heights and be prepared to relocate to higher ground.
- Farmers and landholders are advised to relocate livestock, pumps, chemicals and equipment to higher ground.
- Never drive, walk or play in floodwaters. Floodwater may be deep, fast flowing and may contain hidden snags and debris.
