COVID-19 barely kept the Bathurst Golf Club shut in the past two years, but on Friday it was the wet weather that kept the people off the greens.

More then 70 millimetres of rain fell in Bathurst towards the end of last week, cancelling top grade cricket, the local triathlon, as well as the golf falling victim to the wet weather.
Bathurst Golf Club president Ray Stapley can only recall one day the greens had to close because of COVID-19 but that was only because of a mistake from Golf Australia.

He said a fair chunk of the golf course was flooded, with Jordan Creek, which runs through the course, almost turning into a river with the above average rainfall.
"It was like a river. Jordan Creek goes right through the town and to the Macquarie River, but it was massive. There were a couple of rivers going through the golf course," he said.
"It was so wet on Friday and everything is still saturated and that's why the Macquarie River is up, from all the rain."
But the club was back open on Saturday, but with a very soggy surface underfoot.
"On Saturday, we had probably 30-40 people playing but it was still very wet underfoot," he said.
"Very rarely does it close. It has been closed halfway through a day but never a whole day like it was on Friday.
"We've been really lucky with COVID, running seven days a week with competitions. It's brought everyone out to play.
"When sports like football, hockey and netball were shutdown, we were able to keep golf running. Obviously we couldn't open the club house, but on the course, it was classed as recreation.
While the golf course is currently opening, the club will no be allowing carts on the course until further notice.
Golf was one of only a few sports that was still able to continue throughout COVID-19 lockdowns, with people allowed to play in pairs, in line with the NSW Government's restrictions.
