Katie Anne Bennett, 21, of Bannerman Crescent, appeared before magistrate Kevin Hockey last week charged with an illicit drug in their blood.
Solicitor Tomas Gooley said Bennett entered a plea of guilty and handed up a letter from her rehabilitation, plus two referees.
Mr Gooley said his client had long-standing drug and alcohol issues but had now taken it upon herself to enter rehabilitation, which he said satisfied grounds for leniency.
He also said his client had limited money to pay.
MAKING NEWS:
Police facts tendered to the court told how the accused drove with methamphetamine in her blood.
The facts outlined how she was stopped by police in her Holden Captiva on September 11 at 12.40am.
Officers spoke with the accused who produced a P2 driver's licence. A roadside breath test produced a negative result but the drug test produced a positive result for methylamphetamine.
Bennett was arrested for the purpose of a second oral fluid test, which also produced a positive result.
In sentencing, Mr Hockey said he was sad to see her before the court but was "pleased to hear you're doing something positive" with her rehab.
"I really hope for the court, yourself and the community the rehab is successful and you can get off this awful drug. It will destroy your life," he said.
She was convicted of the offence, fined $300 and had her licence disqualified for six months.
