Graeme and Carol Dobbie, both 73 years old, are big Holden supporters and every year would decorate their home for the Bathurst 1000.

They left the region in 2008, but they have taken their passion to their new home in Shoal Bay, which this week is decked out in anticipation of the race.

The couple aren't just race fans. They also have a family history with the sport and were friends of the late Peter Brock.

"I was born in Bathurst to Ron and Bettie Brown in 1949 and grew up loving motor sport," Mrs Dobbie said.

"My dad was a car motor mechanic in the first race after World War Two. He was also Western District Go Kart Champion back in the 1960s.

"Dad looked after Peter Brock's workshop for many years with a little help from Mum and I, and in the latter years my husband Graeme and I looked after the Holden Team workshop before the new complex was built.

"Even though we left Bathurst in 2008, we still fly the flag and named our home 'Bathurst'. I'm still a very proud Bathurstian and always will be."

They will be cheering on the Holdens from their home, hoping for any of the 17 in the field to win.

"As long as a Holden crosses the line first, I'll be happy," Mrs Dobbie said.
