After a rough trot - in which the long Central Tablelands drought was followed by the coming of COVID - the event's organisers are confident that they will be able to go ahead with the open garden weekend in 2022 after two consecutive cancellations.

"We've got four garden owners from this year who have indicated that they will participate next year," Bathurst Gardeners' Club president and Spring Spectacular Committee chairperson Chris Bayliss said.

Spring Spectacular publicity officer Dianne Thurling said one of the real shames of this year's event having to be cancelled was that the gardening conditions were so good.

"We'd had rain, the gardens were looking really spectacular, but it did not happen," she said.

The club held two recent events to finalise matters for the cancelled 2021 Spring Spectacular.

The first was an afternoon at Abercrombie House to thank the garden owners who had prepared for the event before the decision was made in August to call it off.

"Musicians from the Mitchell Conservatorium of Music entertained guests while they ate canapes and had drinks on the lawn of the historic building," Ms Thurling said.

"The garden owners were presented with certificates to acknowledge the tremendous amount of work involved in preparing their gardens for the event.

"Certificates were also presented to the sponsors of the event, without whose support the event could not go ahead."

Ms Thurling said Abercrombie House owner Christopher Morgan gave an informative talk about the gardens of Bathurst, from Wiradyuri to the present, and drew the Spring Spectacular raffle.

The second of the Bathurst Gardeners' Club's events was held in Machattie Park to present funds to the charities the 2021 Spring Spectacular had chosen to support.

"Even though the Spring Spectacular did not take place, the Spring Spectacular raffle went ahead and raised a considerable amount of money, as did the Gardeners' Club plant stall at the Farmers' Market on November 27," Ms Thurling said.

"The Gardeners' Club also donated to the 2021 Spring Spectacular to provide funds to be donated to the charities."

In the distribution of funds, Mitchell Conservatorium of Music received $2500, the 2BS Lions Club Miracle Appeal $1250, Riding for the Disabled $500, Can Assist $1750 and Defence Community Dogs $5000.
