Incumbent Graeme Hanger, who is in a good position to be returned to Bathurst Regional Council, has donated his corflute signs to the Great Beginnings childcare centre in Kelso.
He took the signs to the centre on Tuesday and already the kids have found creative ways to use them.
Some of the signs have been painted to feature Christmas characters, such as a reindeer and elf, with a hole cut out for children to put their faces through.
They also used the signs to make cubby houses and other structures to play in.
Mr Hanger visited the centre again on Friday and was impressed with how his signs were being used.
"It's a good way of reusing something that's not got much value," he said.
While the majority of the signs are from his campaign, he also donated some featuring other candidates.
"It just happened there were one or two leftovers and, because everyone's cooperative and helps everyone else, I just picked them up," Mr Hanger said.
Great Beginnings has a sustainability program as part of its commitment to keeping the local community green and sustainable and reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
Centre manager Erin Judge said the donation from Mr Hanger supported that.
"Encouraging children to think about how products can be reused or repurposed before they are recycled is a key focus of our curriculum," she said.
"We engage in lots of 'loose parts' play, which encourages children to think critically and creatively about how to use junk in innovative ways.
"Children love to collaborate to create cubby houses, waterslides, boats and blankets with our new additions as well as engaging in literacy and numeracy activities with donated materials, including from our local councillor.
"The project also adds to our sustainability vision, which includes vegetable gardens, worm farms and recycling programs in the centre."
