It will be the first time the event has been cancelled after being one of the state's last big events held before COVID lockdowns were first introduced in March 2020 and was one of the first big community events held as Bathurst emerged from COVID at the start of this year.
But council events manager Amanda Marks said the combination of renewed COVID uncertainty and increased competition from similar cycling events across the state had convinced organisers to shelve plans for the 2022 classic.

Ms Marks said the Bathurst Cycling Classic had seen a drop in numbers in recent years.
"With increased competition and with the uncertainty around COVID-19, council has made the decision not to proceed," Ms Marks said.
Council thanked all the sponsors, participants and everyone who has shown their support to make the event a success in recent years.
