A firm interest in community radio as well as a desire to work with a wide range of people were two key factors in Rebecca Wotzko's decision to assume the role of 2MCE station manager.

Ms Wotzko succeeds Lisa McLean, who left the role in December after three years, and will bring an extensive background as a radio and television producer and presenter to the role.
And Ms Wotzko's career started at Charles Sturt University's [CSU] Bathurst campus, where she studied communications, so the new role is somewhat of a homecoming for the Australian Film Television and Radio School [AFTRS] trained radio producer.
"While studying at CSU, the first student club I joined was the Studio 4 Broadcasting Club, who were substantially involved with 2MCE operations," she said.
"I've recently been a producer on 2MCE's Community Drive program, and there's great scope for creative and innovative programming moving forward."
Ms Wotzko said community radio plays an important role in the regional media landscape in the sense it airs the people and stories that fall through the cracks of other media outlets.
"Part of 2MCE's mission is to serve the views, needs and interests of the Bathurst and Orange communities," she said.
"Community radio is one of the three important broadcasting sectors, but it's also a wonderful training ground for people young and old with an interest in media and communications."
Ms Wotzko said both 2MCE and the National Radio News [NRN] service based at the station are key avenues for CSU communications students to gain vital on-air experience, and hopes to continue growing relationships between students and community volunteers.
"Another part of 2MCE's mission is to promote CSU and support the social, cultural and educational interests of students and volunteers," she said.
"2MCE reaches a wide audiences across the Central West, and NRN is the national news service for the community radio sector, so presenters are always producing content to cater for a wide range of listeners."
Ms Wotzko is hoping to help increase student participation at 2MCE after two COVID-wrought years, where students were forced into online study for significant periods.
"There hasn't been a lot of student opportunities as of late, so as long as COVID is managed accordingly, we really want to encourage new and existing CSU students to consider adding to 2MCE's diverse program roster," she said.
