The state government has announced the group will receive a $4600 grant to undertake a number of improvements which will make their clubrooms in Havannah Street more user-friendly.
A variety of works are poised to be carried out using the funding, which will be roughly split in half to carry out specific purposes.
Around $2100 will be used to upgrade the lighting inside the premises, while $2500 will be put towards the completion of some much-needed plumbing work, as well as the purchase of welding tables and storage space for welding gear.
Deputy premier and Bathurst MP Paul Toole said the lighting inside the hall is outdated and will be upgraded with LED lights which will give better illumination to areas where wood working equipment is located.
"Several of the club's members are also keen welders and having the right equipment for this skill is important," Mr Toole said.
"Not only are they quite proficient at making and repairing items, they are also able to pass their knowledge onto other members.
"Being able to offer welding to the comprehensive range of wood-working skills at the Men's Shed gives the members another option in what they are able to do, not only for themselves but also for the wider community who are always welcome to call in and ask for help with their small projects."
The Bathurst Men's Shed is part of the larger Australian Men's Shed Association, which was formed to oversee any community-based, non-profit, non-commercial organisation accessible to all men and whose primary activity is the provision of a safe, friendly and healing environment where men are able to work on meaningful projects at their own pace in their own time in the company of other men.
A key objective of the initiative is to promote positive mental health and social inclusion among men. The group gathers on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 8.30am until 12.30pm.
