The store opens today at the rear of the Orange Arcade after an absence from the city of several years.
Spokesman Luke Harris said yesterday the independent fruit and produce merchant had already begun stocking local and regional apples (bonza, red delicious and gala) beans, potatoes, and cauliflowers.
Mr Harris said 20 local people were employed in the business.
"We've only bought one from Sydney so the rest are permanent and casual locals," he said.
Mr Harris said a local representative would work with district producers to purchase locally grown produce to be placed directly in the store without going through the metropolitan market system.
"We tried to time our opening to coincide with our opening here in Orange 20 years ago, which was also in April, but we have just missed out by a few days," he said.
Local producers can contact Carlos on 9746-2055 for more information about submitting their produce for sale at the market.
