A small group of family members and friends gathered for the occasion, the plaque briefly detailing the Palmer family's arrival in Australia and contribution to the Bathurst district.
George Palmer arrived in Australia in 1818, married Mary Ann Bayliss, and died in 1834.
His son, John, was born in Bathurst in 1832. John Palmer married Mary Yates Beatty.
The family built and lived in the historic home Moreauvia at Orton Park, south of Bathurst.
John Palmer died in 1884. His son, Vivien, was born in 1882 and died in 1956. Former well-known Bathurst resident, the late Maxwell Moreau Palmer (1918-1996) was a son of Vivien.
Max Palmer's wife Margaret and three sons, David, Bryan and Stuart, and their families were at Sunday's plaque unveiling.
Speaking from Sydney, Margaret Palmer said her close friends Lalage Gabb and Judy Webb attended, as did Theo Barker, an old friend of Max Palmer.
Mr Barker, who also represented Bathurst and District Historical Society, addressed the small gathering.
