The man Christian Louis Bondon, 26, was before the Bathurst Local Court this week pleading guilty to possession of 60.9 grams of cannabis police found hidden in two bags stuffed down the front of his underpants about 2.30pm on Tuesday, April 29.
Solicitor Leigh Haywood who represented Bondon, of Cole Crescent, Oberon said it had been a gross amount of cannabis her client had in possession after he’d come to Bathurst to visit his terminally ill father.
Magistrate Thomas Hodgson asked why Bondon needed so much cannabis. Ms Haywood said he’d not been working and bought his drugs in bulk to last a week.
Acting police prosecutor Sergeant Adam Wood tendered a statement of facts outlining how police were aware of Bondon being a person known to have extensive intelligence about
supply of prohibited drugs in the Oberon area.
Police had the premises in O’Connell Place, West Bathurst under surveillance and saw Bondon walk from the house to a white Hyundai Excel up the street.
The car had been driven to Suttor street where police pulled it over asking for any illegal substances to be declared.
Bondon had claimed to have only driven and dropped a woman off at the house. But declared two bags containing cannabis hidden down the front of his underwear.
Police examined Bondon’s wallet and found it contained $3,000 cash. They placed the street value of the 60.9 grams of cannabis at $1,200 when broken down to 60 street deals of one gram.
Mr Hodgson took into account the circumstances of the case and the amount of cannabis involved convicting and fining Bondon $570 and ordering the drugs to be destroyed.
