An active and fit 24-year-old, Anthony was out dirt bike riding with friends when he was dealt a cruel blow.
After hitting a jump at fast speeds, he went too far and hit the next up ramp, and almost cut himself in half.
Concerned friends instantly called for help and after being flown by helicopter to Sydney it was shown Anthony had suffered a T5 complete spinal cord injury and was now a paraplegic.
Since then Anthony has spent several months at the Royal North Shore Hospital, recovering from life threatening injuries which included a T6 fracture to his vertebrae, broken ribs, a punctured lung and lacerations to his liver and kidney.
Close friend Melissa Schumacher said Anthony was now at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre where he is currently undergoing intensive physiotherapy, occupational therapy, education sessions and driving lessons to prepare for his return to everyday life.
“Although Anthony will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, he is still full of spirit and has the determination to live a normal, independent life,” she said.
To help Anthony adjust to life, a special fundraising auction will be held at the St Pat’s Sporting Club on February 21.
Ms Schumacher said the tickets were $30 and include a two course meal.
“The funds raised on the night will go towards the necessary equipment to bring Anthony home,” she said.
“That equipment includes a wheelchair, a specialised bed and modifications to his home and car.
“Any support on the night is very muchly appreciated.”
Tickets must be purchased before the night at the St Pat’s Sporting Club, Kenny Spring Solicitors, Moodie and Blomfield Chemist, Beard Brother Motorcycles or Ms Schum-acher on 0431 251 869.
