Ehran, who is the film’s writer, director and producer, grew up in Bathurst, attending Kelso Public School and Kelso High School. She graduated in 2004.
In 2006 she moved to Canberra to study media production at the Canberra Institute of Technology, winning a number of awards for producing, editing and cinematography.
Now in her fourth term at the International Film School in Sydney, this 15 to 20-minute short film is her major project.
“Having come from Bathurst I wanted to do a film in the area involving local people,” she said.
The film, titled Pixie Rose and Johnny Sienna, is a story set in the 1950s.
It tells the tale of a girl and boy from opposite sides of the track.
“I fell in love with the characters and believed so strongly in the project I raised some of my own funds so I could make it the best film it could possibly be,” Ehran said.
“I started doing films in high school and really loved it.
“After watching a lot of movies I became particularly interested in cinematography.”
Ehran, 23, said she intends to film at various locations around Bathurst and involve local people as extras.
She has already secured the use of Annie’s Ice Cream parlour for some of her shots and is hopeful of using Blair Athol as the home shared by Pixie and her father.
Filming is expected to take place in Bathurst between December 16 and 20.
“There are a lot of opportunities for people to be involved,” she said.
“I am looking for someone to help volunteer with the food, maybe loan me some 1950s furniture, outfits or vintage cars to be placed in scenes.
“I would also love to hear from anyone who would like to be an extra or can help with billeting crew members.”
Ehran said she needs assistance from anyone who can help with props, costumes or hair and make-up.
“I have a very small budget and that’s why I am hoping to receive some local help,” Ehran said.
