Bathurst Wallabies Tri Club members Campbell Graham, Keith Tuynman, Howard Yen, Richard Hobson, Dustin Bartholemew, Nick Lander, Blair Watson, Blair Hurst, Mick Stapley, Josh Stapley, Nathan Bankovic, Morgan Davis, Jody Parker, Ryan Sargent, Brooke Tuynman, Aimee Watson and Andrew Knox all produced strong efforts in Huskisson.
One of the best performances over the two days came from rising talent, Bankovic, who claimed victory in the 14-15 age group of the Sprint Individuals on the Saturday.
Bankovic completed the sprint course in one hour, two minutes and 17 seconds to place first in the group and 15th overall.
Brooke Tuynman, Aimee Watson and Andrew Knox also competed in the sprint and miniman triathlons doing the club proud with their efforts.
The next day, Bathurst Wallabies members raced over 100 kilometres in the Long Course Individual race.
“It was hot, hot, hot,” Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon president Howard Yen said.
“Very humid and hot and was not conditions that we are used to competing or training in.”
Unsurprisingly it was Richard Hobson who led the way for the Bathurst club, finishing the course in four hours, 17 minutes and 51 seconds and coming 95th overall, and eighth in the 40-44 age group.
Hobson was closely followed by Yen (4:48.00), Blair Hurst (4:51.28), Ryan Sargent (5:00.43) and Jody Parker (5:00.56).
“For a lot of the guys there this was their final hit- out before they go the Port Macquarie ,” Yen said.
“Certainly, because of that, I think everyone struggled in the run due to the humidity and there not being a lot of shade along the ocean road.
“All of the results are positive for the club and show how much the sport is continuing to grow in the Bathurst community.”
Besides doing themselves proud the group also represented the John Maclean Foundation (JMF) at the big event as part of the club’s fundraising efforts for local children Will Kemp and Harry Clist.
Yen joked the Bathurst club members who made the journey to Huskisson only have two weeks to recover before the town hosts it’s biggest event of the year. “There is no rest for the wicked we are only two weeks away from the Dave Carroll and David Scott Memorial Triathlon,” he said.
“We encourage everyone to get involved individuals and team – the more people the merrier.”
Following the completion of the Dave Carroll and David Scott Memorial Triathlon a presentation will be held at the Family Hotel at 4pm.
The Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club is sponsored by King Cain Solicitors.
