Initial police investigations suggest the man’s Celica was travelling down Stewart Street towards Durham Street when it was clipped at the rear by a woman driving a white Toyota Seca, about 4.15pm.
It appears the driver of the Seca was travelling east on Howick Street and attempted to turn right onto Stewart Street, and did not see the Celica.
The cars collided, with the Celica becoming airborne and coming to land between two new vehicles in the front of the Bathurst Mitsubishi and Kia car yard. Two vehicles in the yard were also damaged in the crash.
Police, police rescue, NSW Ambulance and NSW Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene, to find the driver of the Celica trapped in his car.
It took about 20 minutes for police rescue to pop the door and free the driver, who was taken to Bathurst Base Hospital with minor injuries. He remained conscious at all times, with paramedics placing a neck brace on him as a precautionary measure.
The driver of the Toyota Seca suffered shock but was otherwise unhurt in the accident.
Bystanders who heard the crash said they came to investigate after hearing a loud ‘thud’ outside.
One man, who lives in a nearby house, said by the time he got outside to see what had happened police were already assisting the injured man.
“By the time we got out the front the police were here, so we didn’t have to do anything.”
Inspector Brad Porter from NSW Ambulance said the driver suffered only minor injuries.
“Thankfully he is OK, he was very lucky,” Inspector Porter said.
