Keppel Street Kindy has made a special presentation to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal, highlighting the true spirit of the festive season.
Children and staff from the childcare centre donated a box of toys to the annual appeal.
It was packed full of books, Play-Doh, Barbie dolls and sporting equipment, as well as craft supplies and a scooter.
Kindy director Trisha Denmead said the centre had enjoyed supporting the initiative for several years.
“It’s nice for the children to recognise there are others in the community who need a hand at Christmas,” she said.
“We’re really pleased the children, parents and families have embraced the appeal again this year.”
During Christmas and New Year the Salvos provide support for more than 300,000 people nationwide – they distribute more than 500,000 toys and gifts and serve around 8,000 Christmas meals to needy families.
Captain Daniel Ross of The Salvation Army in Bathurst said December was traditionally the busiest month of the year. “We have found that 2011, in particular, has been a very tight year as increased living costs have taken their toll,” he said.
“We have experienced an even higher demand for Christmas assistance this year; though donations are a little down on what we normally see.”
Captain Ross urged the Bathurst community to support the appeal in the lead-up to the big day. “We’re in desperate need for donations,” he said.
“We want to ensure that every family and every child in the Bathurst region receives something special this Christmas.”
You can still donate to the appeal. Drop new toys - preferably not gift wrapped - into Salvos Family Store or to the 2BS Gold office by Friday, December 23.
