East Ballarat junior Matt Short enjoyed a highlight filled start to his BBL|11 campaign in the Adelaide Strikers opening game loss to the Melbourne Renegades at Marvel Stadium. The former St Patrick's College student steadied the ship for the Strikers during the Renegades' innings, taking a one handed, full-stretch catch off his own bowling to claim Adelaide's first wicket. READ MORE SPORT: It left Melbourne 1-65 off 8.5 overs and helped Adelaide get on a roll and take 8-88 to hold the Renegades to 153 from their 20 overs. Short then opened the batting alongside Jake Weatherald and smashed a quick-fire 29 runs from 18 balls. His innings included one four and two second-deck sixes, helping Adelaide get off to a flying start. Short led the Strikers to 0-45 from 4.2 overs before being dismissed by Zahir Khan. Adelaide slowed from there, however still stood a chance to win in the last over. It needed five runs from the last ball, a six would win it and a four would result in a tie and cause a super-over. It managed just two and lost by two runs. The two sides meet again on Thursday at Adelaide Oval from 7:15pm.
