Shaun and his son Paul, opened the door to their jewellery store, Miles & Son Jewellery Studio, at 70A George Street.
The father and son made the leap and decided to open their own business after their long-time employers, Sam and Illona Coote retired, and closed WJ Coote and Sons late last year.
While the pair loved working with the team at WJ Cootes, Shaun said he had always talked about one day opening his own studio alongside Paul, so WJ Coote’s closure provided the perfect opportunity.
“This is a dream which has become a reality,” Shaun said.
“To continue on as a family owned, independent business, is what I’ve always wanted.”
The pair said they look forward to working with existing and new clients, and in addition to creating one off pieces they will also be doing jewellery repairs, in their workshop upstairs.
“All our handmade pieces and repairs will be done onsite,” they said.
The pair have also recruited Tania Reedy, who worked alongside them at Cootes, to their studio.
Tania said she’s delighted to continue working in an industry which is so much fun.
“You really experience all the joy, when someone gets engaged, when they get married, we’re really lucky because we get to be part of all those key moments in people’s lives,” she said.
While the store opened it’s doors on Monday, it will have it’s official opening this Saturday, from 9am until 2pm.
Tania, Shaun and Paul invited everyone to come and see the new studio.
“Come and have a look,” they said.
