Bathurst High managed to secure a 106-point lead on day one of its tie against Orange High School, claiming wins in three sports and drawing in the fourth.
Their performance comes on the back of winning the first tie with Dubbo College last week, the score 487 to 313.
Principal Ken Barwick said day one in Orange had been “really good”, despite the cold and rainy conditions that hung around for most of the day.
The girls’ football provided the biggest point yield for Bathurst High, the team walking away with 75 points.
Mr Barwick said the concern heading into day two is the knowledge that Orange has traditionally been stronger in basketball, hockey and netball, making up three of the four sports being played.
“My view going into [Friday] is that if we can keep all of the sports really close and win one, we would go really close to reclaiming the cup,” he said.
If Bathurst High, the defending champion, wins the cup, it’ll will be the school’s 26th victory in the long history of the competition and fifth in seven years.
